Michael as a child suffered from ADHD (Attention Deficient Hyperactivity Disorder).

At the age of 15 years and 9 months, he became the youngest male ever to set a new world record in the 200-meter butterfly at the World Championship Trials for the 2001 World Aquatics Championships.

Michael Phelps in addition to his successful swim career has written two books, Beneath the Surface: My Story (2008) and No Limits: The Will to Succeed (2009).

His lungs are nearly twice as large as the average humans at 12 liters.

He has been nicknamed “Iron Mike” by his fans, but his teammates call him “Gomer”.
