Long before Neil Armstrong took the first step on the Moon two tortoises were set into space by the Soviet Union on a lunar voyage and travelled around the moon to be recovered later on 21 September from the sea. The tortoises survived the trip but were restless and also lost some weight.
Apollo 13 was the seventh manned mission in the Apollo space program and passed the far side of the Moon at a distance of 254 kilometers (137 nautical miles) above the lunar surface, and 400,171 km (248,655 mi) from Earth, and this is the farthest distance which any astronaut had travelled ever in the history of mankind.
